1. About these terms

These terms apply to your use of this website and to quotes we provide. The work itself is governed by the written contract you sign before it begins. Where these terms and a signed contract differ, the signed contract governs.

2. Who we are and what we do

Toronto Home Reno is a renovation contractor serving Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. We carry out renovation, repair and home improvement work using our own crews and, where a job calls for a trade we do not carry in-house, licensed subcontractors we engage and remain responsible for.

3. Quotes and estimates

• Quotes follow an on-site assessment. There is no charge for the assessment and no obligation attached to the quote.
• A quote is valid for 30 days from its date unless it says otherwise. Material prices move, and we cannot hold a number indefinitely.
• Any figure given before an on-site assessment is a rough indication only, not a quote, and is not binding on either of us.
• A quote covers the scope written in it. Conditions that could not reasonably be seen during the assessment, such as rot, mould, failed wiring or structural problems found once a wall is opened, are not included and are handled as a change order under section 5.

4. Contracts and your cancellation rights

Before work starts you will receive a written contract setting out the scope, the price, the payment schedule and the expected timeline.

If you sign that contract somewhere other than our place of business, for example in your own home, it is a "direct agreement" under Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002. You may cancel it for any reason within 10 days of receiving the written copy. To cancel, tell us in writing within that period. Your statutory rights under that Act are not limited by anything in these terms.

5. Changes to the work

If you ask for something outside the agreed scope, or if we uncover a condition that has to be dealt with before work can continue, we will give you a written change order describing the work, the cost and the effect on the schedule. We will not proceed with the change until you approve it.

6. Payment

• Payment terms are set out in your contract.
• Deposits, progress payments and holdbacks follow the schedule in the contract and the requirements of Ontario's Construction Act, including any statutory holdback that applies to your project.
• Invoices are due as stated on the invoice.
• HST is charged where applicable and shown separately.

7. Permits and code compliance

Where a permit is required we prepare and submit the application, coordinate inspections, and carry out the work to the Ontario Building Code. Permit fees are either itemised in your quote or billed at cost, as your contract states. You agree to give us the access to the property that inspections require.

8. Scheduling

We give you a dated schedule before work begins. Timelines depend on permit processing, material lead times, inspection availability and weather, and none of those are fully within our control. We will tell you as soon as we know if a date is going to move.

9. Your responsibilities

• Provide safe access to the work area during agreed working hours.
• Move or protect valuables and fragile items from the work area before we start.
• Tell us anything you know about the property that affects the work, including asbestos, lead paint, prior unpermitted work, or the location of anything hidden in the walls or floor.
• Where the property is a condominium, obtain your board's approval and give us any rules on working hours, elevator booking and noise.

10. Warranty

Our workmanship is warranted on the terms stated in your contract. Manufacturer warranties on materials and fixtures pass to you and are honoured by those manufacturers. The warranty does not cover normal wear, damage caused after completion by others, movement or settlement inherent to the building, or work carried out by anyone else.

11. Insurance

We carry commercial general liability insurance and maintain WSIB coverage for our workers. Certificates are available on request before work starts.

12. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under Ontario law, including your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002. Subject to that, our liability arising out of a project is limited to the contract price for that project, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss such as lost income or lost opportunity.

Content on this site, including cost ranges and timelines, is general information about renovation work in the GTA. It is not a quote and not professional advice for your specific property. Every building is different and the only reliable number is the one that follows an on-site assessment.

14. Intellectual property

The text, photographs and design on this site belong to Toronto Home Reno unless stated otherwise, and may not be reproduced without permission.

15. Complaints and disputes

If something is wrong, call us first. Most problems are resolved quickly on site. These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction, which does not affect your right to bring a claim in Small Claims Court or to complain to Consumer Protection Ontario.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version that applies to your project is the one in effect on the date of your contract.
