About Toronto Home Reno

We are a renovation contractor working across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area since 2015. Kitchens, bathrooms and basements are the bulk of what we do, alongside the smaller repair work that keeps an older GTA house running. The work is carried out by our own crews, and where a job needs a trade we do not carry in-house we bring in a licensed subcontractor and stay responsible for the result.

How we quote

Every quote follows an on-site visit. There is no charge for the visit and no obligation attached to the quote. What you get back is itemised, so you can see which line is driving the number and decide what to cut if the total is higher than you wanted. We do not give firm numbers over the phone for work we have not seen, because on older housing stock the thing behind the wall is usually what decides the price.

How we schedule

You get a dated schedule before work starts, including permit processing and material lead times, which are usually what move a completion date rather than the labour itself. If something slips we tell you the day we know, not the week after.

What we will not do

We will not start structural, plumbing or electrical work without the permit that job requires. We will not disturb suspected asbestos without testing and, where needed, certified abatement. And we will not quote a job we are not equipped to finish properly. If your project needs something outside what we do well, we will tell you rather than take it on and learn on your house.

What to ask us for before you sign

Ask us for these, and ask any other contractor you are considering for them too. Hesitation on any of them tells you something useful.

  • A current certificate of liability insurance, with the policy still in date.
  • WSIB clearance, which you can verify yourself through the WSIB website.
  • The trade licence for any electrical, plumbing or gas work.
  • A written, itemised quote rather than a single total.
  • Confirmation of who is pulling the permit and that it has been applied for.

You also have a legal protection worth knowing about: if you sign a renovation contract in your own home rather than at a business premises, Ontario's Consumer Protection Act gives you 10 days to cancel it for any reason. Our terms set that out in full.

Why the permit question matters in the GTA

Most kitchen and bathroom renovations need a permit once plumbing fixtures move or electrical is modified, and basement finishing almost always does. Work done without one can surface years later during a sale, when an inspection or title search turns it up. We handle the application, coordinate the inspections, and build to the Ontario Building Code.

Older GTA housing stock

A lot of what makes a GTA renovation run over budget is not the finishes, it is what is behind the wall: knob-and-tube or early aluminum wiring in pre-war houses, cast iron and galvanised plumbing in post-war ones, asbestos in materials used before 1980, and clay soil that moves foundations across much of Toronto. Our area pages go through what is typical where you live, so you know what to ask about before you get a number.
